Any newcomer to Dallas’ dreamy electro-folk five-piece Air Review, is in for a pleasant surprise!
“Young,” the band’s latest single is a streamlined folk tune that is pushed by an electronic kick and bubbly synth work. Full of swooping backup vocals and a gorgeous lead melody, the song takes-on a sound somewhat reminiscent of Radical Face. Whistles and extra percussion even further support the band’s sound and give the track an incredibly catchy glaze.
“Animal” follows the same sound and architecture as “Young.” Nostalgic synths and percussion are very much the backbone of the track, while falsetto-based vocals and acoustic guitars pair up with the euphoric backdrop perfectly. Perhaps “ambient folk” or “dream folk” is appropriate. The instrumentals work very well in these tracks, creating space without that washy sound, and allowing the listener room to breathe through the dips and dives.
