On Wednesday March 4th, you could be getting down to some excellent, and presumably weird, dance cuts from Avey Tare and Deakin from...
Animal Collective is a mess. That is stated with love because, let’s face it, they really are but in the best way. In anticipation for their forth-coming album Centipede Hz, the guys gave us a taste of what to expect this September with this their trippy and sporadic single, “Today’s Supernatural.”
To start, Avey Tare’s vocals are deeply powerful in this track which makes for such a vocally-rich song since their last record, Merriweather Post Pavilion, which was more instrumentally-center. It really sounds like a by-product of “Strawberry Jam,” more-so than their last album as it twists and turns between a short and honestly infectious hook that yells, “C’mon l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-leh go!”
At first it seemed incredibly strange, but now it comes across as playful and fun. The rest of his vocals, while impossible to decipher, are exceedingly alluring as the song rolls through all four minutes. It definitely sounds like a single and without having heard the rest of the album, it is evident that it was a strong choice.
