What's This?

The sixth studio album by Ava Luna, Moon 2, is due out early September, and we are hella stoked. But we’re also equally enthralled by Ava Luna’s respective solo endeavors. Becca Kauffman is making waves through her one-woman, capitalist-satire dance music alias Jennifer Vanilla. Felicia Douglass is working on solo material and recently joined the newest incarnation of Dave Longstreth’s live Dirty Projectors band.

Now vocalist, guitarist and bandleader Carlos Hernandez is announcing his debut solo project, On Folly, via Gravesend Recordings–an independent record label Carlos founded with Ava Luna’s drummer Julian Fader. The record’s lead single “Second Man” explores a familiar terrain–meandering guitar over melancholy vocals with a psychedelic edge–but we’re expecting more than a few curveballs from this 10-track LP. Poetic Thrust-affiliate Jaedon Alvira, YATTA, Wendy Eisenberg, Greem Jellyfish and Tony Seltzer all contributed to the forthcoming solo effort.

Listen to “Second Man” below. On Folly is out July 27th.

Carlos Hernandez will host his tape release party at Trans-Pecos on July 27th with support from Taphari, Railings, and Ade Hakim. RSVP here.

Bump Ava Luna’s new song “Deli Run”.
