What's This?

AKAI SOLO is easily one of Brooklyn’s most underrated rappers. AKAI’s newest effort, the followup to 2017’s exceptional double mixtape 2GALES, is an eleven-track release that showcases the burgeoning artist in a new light. Similar to 2GALES, CRUSH EVERYTHING taps local underground beatmakers like OLASEGUN and zark (fka Ozark). But on this new mixtape AKAI devotes an equal amount of energy sourcing beats from more established producers–Knxwledge, Apollo Brown and Freddie Joachim. It speaks to the ways his own sensibilities are evolving as a rapper and musician. (AKAI’s next mixtape will feature a few self-produced beats.)

CRUSH EVERYTHING captures the magic in the mundane of AKAI’s everyday life. Between cleverly placed anime references and more personal confessions, he illustrates for his listeners a psychedelic vision of New York City’s vibrant, tumultuous underbelly. Listen.

Tracks we love: “King’s Howl”, “ENERGYXWaves”, “AKAI BLUE // ALWAYS IN HYPER MODE”
