What's This?

We had the pleasure of attending the Corduroy EP release party for Max Schieble’s Elbows project at C’mon Everybody this Saturday night. As he articulated in between songs, this newly released five-track EP is just “an appetizer,” in terms of the new material that’s soon to come. Max and his five-piece R&B/soul ensemble teased some of those new tracks alongside highlights from the new EP, which have been nearly three years in the making.

Brooklyn-based funk revivalists IGBO offered direct support. Their drummer was noticeably absent, replaced with programmed beats from a laptop, but despite the missing link the band managed to seize the crowd and receive their absolute adoration.

Elbows’ live performance certainly expanded upon his intrinsically weird recorded sound, allowing the individual prowess of musicians like bassist/solo artist Jachary and drummer Dillon Treacy to do their thing over his woozy, wonky, inspiring soul songs. It was a damn good time and a monumental occasion that marked the next evolution of Elbows.
