Detroit beatsmith JMSN is best known for his work with Kendrick Lamar and Ta-ku, but the emerging producer is quickly making a name for himself on his own two feet. While his debut album †Priscilla† saw his vocals pushed to the forefront, his newest material finds him working in a slightly different realm.
“The One,” Berishaj’s latest single is lightyears away from “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” in many respects: skittering drum beats and twangy guitar work are replaced by tightly packed bass bumps and tender string arrangements. The more he layers, the more detail we get to see of his deeply intricate mind. It’s like taking a look inside the mind of a watch maker only to find a million little cogs cohesively moving together. Simply put, it’s a much more moving piece than any of his hip-hop collabs. Just listen to those first few whispers around the 30 second mark: “Christian, are you awake?” Now tell me this isn’t made for the bedroom. Oh and did I mention JMSN‘s unmistakable resemblance to JT?
