“Born in 1784 in the backseat of a sea-foam green space pinto,” Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, musician, and electronic producer Kadhja Bonet is an artist that defies time and space. “After spending an extraordinarily long time in her mothers plasma, she discovered the joys and gratifications of making noise with her hands and face while traveling at maximum velocity through intergalactic jungle quadrants,” or so the story goes. Kadhja is a character, literally and otherwise, and her music–serene, strange, defiantly anachronistic–only further lends itself to these tall tales (think Joanna Newsom meets Janelle Monáe). Her newest song “This Love,” is sleek, swoon-worthy chamber pop with a backbone of early 70s funk.
Stream The Visitor EP, released last fall, which was entirely produced by Kadhja.
