Although her name has never graced the walls here at Indie Current before, Katy B is one British starlet that we’ve been proud to have spinning around our iTunes quite a lot. Inspite of our lack of coverage of Katy B though we have managed to do a couple things right and familiarize you with Montreal beatsmith, Jacques Greene, a fair amount. So, when it was announced this morning that the duo would be joining forces on a track on Katy B‘s newly released collaborative EP Danger, we had to dig-in and give it a listen.
Fronted by Katy B‘s crystalline vocals and her dark lyrical fallacies, the single floats amongst Jacques Greene‘s leery and complaisant production work with just enough “oomph” to garner a catchy vibe. Layers of rolling beats and mystical synths drape Katy‘s vocals with immediacy and power, resulting in an eery aura that somehow manages to cling onto a string of pop influence.
Along with this Jacques Greene collaboration, Katy B has also linked-up with big names such as, Jessie Ware and Iggy Azalea on this latest EP. And, if that isn’t enough to excite you, she has also been lent a helping hand from a little known producer by the name of Diplo. And yeah, you did hear that right.
