Netherlands electronic producer Kratos Himself makes introspective beat music on par with Detroit’s Shigeto and British LA transplant Bonobo. Unlike those two, however, Kratos (born Jethro Hopmans) sometimes sneaks his own vocals into the mix, giving his ethereal downtempo productions a surreal touch. The forthcoming Kratos Himself full-length, Stay True, features such tracks, along with more heady, rhythmically exuberant cuts. But the crowning jewel of Stay True might be the record’s invigorated closing number, “Bits & Pieces,” a psychedelic electro jam that taps English soul vocalist Bev Lee Harling.
