In late-October, Miike Snow made their long-awaited return with their first song in nearly three years. While the song sparked my hope for a new album, it fell a little short of expectations. Well, that is to say, it was demonstrably different than any of the group’s earlier work. But for their latest effort, the band are back to basics.
“Genghis Khan” is a big-ticket pop number that could easily be mistaken for an unreleased demo from group’s self-titled debut, if not for the announcement of their forthcoming record, iii. Start with a playful piano arrangement, add Andrew Wyatt’s saccharine vocals and you’ve got yourself a clever little earworm. Listen below.
