We’ve slept on this a bit, but better late than never. On “Pull Me Down,” Nashville singer-songwriter Mikky Ekko‘s melodies soar, lifting simple (cliche, some might say) lyrics to heights that most pop music doesn’t reach these days. Not only is it a breakthrough for Ekko, but the record marks something of a pop crossover for co-producer Clams Casino. I have to say while I love to hear Clams‘ beats propping up A$AP Rocky or The Weeknd, I could get used to this new pop sensibility. While much of the attention from the alternative music press has been on the New Jersey beatsmith, Ekko has clearly been reaping the rewards as well. Rihanna just revealed that the two will be dueting on her new album. Yeah. Mikky isn’t wasting any time, and we don’t mind at all.
