If you pay close attention to Toronto’s burgeoning music scene, you’ll know that local label Pirates Blend is home to some of the city’s best new artists. Recently, the label made the addition of synth-pop outfit, Only Yours, to their lineup. But while they’re not the usual suspects, we’d say the label is better because of it.
Fronted by lead-singer Lowell Sostomi, the scruffy-looking four-piece (above) made their debut last year with their self-titled EP, Only Yours. While their profile isn’t quite as large as their labelmates and fellow indie-pop purveyors, Young Empires, their latest single “Living In The Moment” ensures they’re not too far behind.
At just under four-minutes, the song is an infectious hit of chiming guitars and shimmering synths that packs a powerful 80’s punch. Like the single before it, “Living In The Moment” is propelled forward by a deep undulating bassline and a playful mix of drums and handclaps. Together, these elements combine to form a pristine slice of pop/rock.
In an email to Indie Current, Sostomi had this to say of the song: “When we first went into the studio to record our self titled EP we wanted to make it sound really smooth and warm—with “Living in the Moment” we tried to do something a little different, capturing the excitement of the song with crispier production, harder hitting sounds and a more energetic performance. We are constantly striving to explore new ways of arranging and producing our songs, while maintaining a cohesive vibe.”
