Supporting his current full-length last year, Bilal–the renowned R&B legend featured on Kendrick Lamar‘s To Pimp A Butterfly–picked up singer-songwriter and musician Jake Sherman for his tour of America and Europe. He played keys and fulfilled backup vocal duties, which closely aligns with his solo material as Jake Sherman, like 2012’s eccentric piano jam “When It Was Summer” (the lead track on his self-titled album from the same year).
While on tour, during an impromptu session in Italy, Bilal and Jake Sherman recorded a duo version of one of Bilal’s songs called “Right At The Core.” Featuring Sherman on piano and Bilal on vocals, this airy soul ballad drifts between the whimpering melancholy of Will Wiesenfeld’s Baths project to the uproarious crescendoes of John Legend. The track is an exciting glimpse into the next evolution of Sherman’s forthcoming solo album, which will be released later in 2016. Stream “Right At The Core” and Jake Shermanbelow.
