What's This?

Leicester producer and R&B artist Scott Xylo departs from his future funk groove on his newest effort. “Hold On,” a dope and dizzying production that revisits an Afro-funk and psychedelic vibe of the not-so distant past. In an email, Scott told me he was inspired by artists like Funkadelic and Sly and the Family Stone, namely the latter’s “trippy vocals, funky loose swings and hypnotic basslines.” He’s also channeling  Fela Kuti and Ebo Taylor with the “West African percussion and funky organ” you can hear at the end of the track. Listen to “Hold On” below.
