A couple of months ago we brought you the bubbly indie-pop sensations of Newcastles’ Shields and their danceable single “Mezzanine.” Since doing so, it appears that things have only been sunny for the band and many people have now begun to notice the catchy Friendly Fires appeal that the band has been able to create for themselves.
So, to continue on their streak of success, the band has now brought us the full clippings to their rock rendition of SBTRKT‘s “Pharaohs.” By putting their hard-hitting electronic-pop touches to the commercially successful single, Shields have thrown aside the once very funky sound and ditched it for striking drumlines and unforgiving guitar riffs. In addition, the single, while already great as it is, gets the taste of shuttering light effects and some neatly created masks in the simply made music video. As a result, the band have been able to perfectly package this cover which will hopefully continue their run of success, and greatly increase our chances of hearing more incredible covers like this in the future. Or at least, that’s what we can only hope for.
