What's This?

Missouri born and Jersey bred singer-songwriter SZA is America’s own girl. The self-proclaimed “Not R&B” and “Glitter Trap” artist self-released two EPs before signing with Top Dawg Entertainment. SZA’s new single “Sobriety” is marked by unearthly, almost eerie, echoing vocals on top of a minimalistic, propelling back track forged by a list of producers five names long. “Sobriety” is imbued with a hazy kind of darkness that sparkles with forthrightness–lyrics cataloguing a storyboard of struggles, addictions and strained family ties. Escaping the looming vice grip that is negativity, SZA cries assurances into the void, “I’ma be fine, anyway/ I’ma be cool/ I’ma keep calm/ I’ma be right, anyway.”
