What's This?

In keeping with Syd Tha Kid‘s tradition of sultry, powerfully provocative rhymes as frontwoman of the West coast hip-hop ensemble The Internet, the first lines of “Special Affair” are stupid sexy: “Penny for your thoughts, I know what you want/ I can read your mind, even from behind/ And fuck what’s in your phone, let me take you home.” The surreptitiously sensual groove is the lead single on their forthcoming record Ego Death (to be released June 30), which will feature stellar guest spots from Janelle Monáe, Tyler, the Creator, Vic Mensa, Kaytranada, jazz composer Steve Lacy, and James Fauntleroy (the breakout vocalist from Kendrick Lamar‘s To Pimp A Butterfly). The record’s lead single is a gorgeous, tropical affair, featuring bird sounds, running water, and a fiery drum cadence–a perfect pickup for the summertime.
