William Phillips, aka Tourist, has been prepping his debut album, U, for some time now. Over the past few months, the British producer has been sharing short clips of his studio sessions, giving listeners a glimpse into his writing process. Although he’s been fairly generous in his efforts, Phillips has kept a few songs close to his chest, including his latest single, “Holding On.”
The song is a collaborative effort between Phillips, Niia and Josef Salvat, three immensely talented artists in their own regard. But as a collective unit, these three prove to be a deadly combo. Phillips constructs a vibey 2-step production that slowly builds upon layers of beats and piano, while Niia and Salvat engage in some healthy interplay. As the song draws to a close, the two vocalists share a moment of quite when the bassline fades and a piano take its place.
