JaJa Kisses (aka Jaja Ogun, aka Janet Carolan) first caught our attention when she dropped “PIMMS” a few years back. Produced by Flowzart and Miles Francis, the tantalizing trap joint offered Jaja the perfect template to showcase her soulful chops and articulate flow. In “PIMMS” there were traces of R&B diva Sevyn Streeter and art-pop provocateur FKA twigs, but on the newly released mixtape, Young Fashioned, JaJa showcases a sound and style that does much to distinguish herself.
JaJa explores a range of moods and tempos throughout Young Fashioned‘s 14 cuts–from lush cosmic lullabies (“Gold Bra”) to swervy trap bangers (“Feelings”)–and that versatility is what makes her such an exciting artist. Her mixtape offers several unexpected moments, like her brilliant flow over the heady, lo-fi production “Give Up” or the deep, psychedelic swagger of “Girl In Need.”
JaJa Kisses released her debut project, Young Fashioned, today, on her birthday, so celebrate with Jaja by streaming/downloading this fantastic mixtape.
