Only a month or so after releasing their heart swelling EP, State Hospital, Frightened Rabbit are dutifully going ahead and giving us a taste of their new full-length album, Pedestrian Verse, due out in Feburary.

The first cut from that upcoming album, “Dead Now,” was just released, and with the accompaniment a tour video, shows how the band has continued with their down-to-earth personalities despite having recently signed to major label, Atlantic.

In contrast to the band’s breakout record, The Winter of Mixed Drinks, “Dead Now” gives semblance of a more unhinged craft, until 3-minutes in when the pedal hits the floor and all avoidance of rock gets thrown out the window. The amp gets notched up and the bursting guitar solo tackles the saddening, yet up-beat sound of hand-claps and blissful “oohs.”

While refreshingly leaner than the material on the band’s three past releases, “Dead Now” gives the impression of a more open and welcoming sound that will (fingers crossed) continue through to the new album.
