For multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Vishal Narang, each recent relocation in his personal life has inspired a new musical alter-ego. A handful of years ago Vishal was making scrappy garage rock tunes with Frankie Cosmos‘ Greta Kline in New York City as Milk Ghost. More recently, after a move to Los Angeles, the solo artist released music as Nirvanus inspired by electronic dance, experimental beat music and old school doo wop R&B.
Vishal Narang now calls Washington DC home and, rather fittingly, creates music as Airhead DC. We’re thrilled to premiere the new LP from Airhead DC, Crush Hi, a fresh take on his lo-fi and left-field pop tendencies. Airhead DC recruited Cherry Glazerr band members Sasami Ashworth, Tabor Allen and Devin O’Brien to producer, engineer and play on the record, introducing a collaborative group energy that’s been absent from most of his previous work.
The ensemble’s chemistry shines through best on “Honey-Colored Flame Blown Off My Candle,” a gritty, strangely joyous guitar pop anthem featuring vocals by Sasami. Further into Crush Hi, Airhead DC veers off into a weirder, more meditative flow to produce some of his most beautiful songs to date–tracks like “Friday” and “Voicemail.”
Listen to Airhead DC’s Crush Hi, out this Friday on Danger Collective Records.
