It’s been nearly a year since we last heard from NYC-based Alex Winston. The release of her new single “Careless,” however, is the beginning of what we hope will be a big year for the singer.
Winston first caught our attention back in 2010 when she released her EP, The Basement Covers. Produced in partnership with The Knocks, that EP was the break Winston was looking for and helped cement her name in the industry. Following the release of The Basement Covers, Winston inked a deal with Island Records, with whom she released her follow up EP, Sister Wife, in 2011. In light of its success, though, we haven’t heard much from Winston, save for “101 Vultures” which was released last year.
With “Careless,” Winston confidently returns to her signature brand of pop: A spunky bassline and pounding drums set the tone early on and build up to a booming, falsetto-fueled chorus. It’s there, in the chorus, that Winston lays down a flurry of pop hooks for all to see. The lyrics, instrumentals and Winston’s raw natural talent all combine to create the perfect comeback single to wrap up 2014.
