Canadian jazz ensemble BADBADNOTGOOD released their first proper album, III, just over two years ago, following two successful mixtapes. Yesterday, with an expanded lineup of four members (saxophonist Leland Whitty who appeared on III‘s “Confessions”), BBNG dropped their newest album, IV. The album is a definitive turn away from the heady, sometimes impenetrable jazz compositions of their last record. On IV, a handful of choice guest appearance (Future Islands‘ Samuel T. Herring, Mick Jenkins, KAYTRANADA, Charlotte Day Wilson and Colin Stetson) influence the more pop-accessible, soul-savvy direction of the 11-track release.
