At the moment, the electronic scene in Australia is undergoing a period of growth, and things don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. One of the scene’s major players, Future Classic—whom you may know as the label behind Flume, Chet Faker and Panama, amongst others—has played integral role in this growth with their talented lineup. From the beginning, they’ve championed a number of unique and innovative artists, so it was no surprise when the label penned a deal with hot commodity, Basenji, back in June. With that deal, both parties hinted at new music—and today, they are making good on that promise.
Nearly eight months since his last original release, Basenji returns with his FC debut, “Heirloom.” While some of you might recognize parts of this song from Wave Racer‘s guest mix on BBC Radio 1, this is the first time we are hearing it in its entirety—and it’s better than any of us could have expected! With this single, Basenji picks up where he left-off, combining nimble beats with featherlight keys and bursts of brass. In addition to refining his sound, he’s once again proven himself a forced to be reckoned with.
