Bipolar Sunshine, the bashful young talent from Britain, has been popping up on year-end lists for the greater part of a month now. With the visual aesthetic of Dev Hynes and the vocal prowess of Raleigh Ritchie, it’s safe to say the crooner is on a path of imminent success. But before he takes 2014 by storm, Mr. Sunshine has decided to share a few remixes of “Drowning Butterflies,” the title track off of his most recent EP.
Having already passed the torch onto Maths Time Joy and Marce Reazon (among others) for mixing duties, the crooner has turned to electro-pop duo We The Wild to give it a go. While the aforementioned producers lifted things up a level, We The Wild have spun things in a different direction, exposing the original to a structured, jungle-like framework. At times, there’s even a hint of oriental sampling involved, which, if you don’t mind me saying, sounds better than the cold guitar riff that backs the original.
