Toronto electronic producer Birthday Boy, who collaborated in the past with Drew Howard and a l l i e, takes the limelight on two new solo efforts, which show off the producer’s pristine R&B vocals. The A-side, “Out Of Here” is an upbeat, experimental trip-hop jam with a mean, disco feel. But the single’s B-side might take the cake. On “Storm,” Birthday Boy crams a mounting progression of ethereal trap rhythms into the space of two minutes, climaxing with a notable anti-drop and the tender vocal hook, “I’m gonna be right there.” The tracks were mastered by Marlon James, who incidentally has a collaborative project with Birthday Boy in the works.
