What's This?

Alex Fleming (aka Black Atlass) is barely 19, and already the electronic whizkid has garnered the kind of musical attention that a veteran musician could only dream of. But if you think that a spread in Vogue and an enlistment from Woodkid would jade the young artist, you’d be wrong. In fact, Fleming is more grounded than ever in his new single “Blossom,” where he is found reminiscing about his first true love. While the production is cold, the vocals are unnervingly smooth—almost to the point of excess. Pulsating beats and isolated synth dips provide the song with some structure, while Fleming weaves his way in-and-around the bassline, slowly but surely trailing the beat. At the end of the day, it’s a dark and seductive effort from an artist that is well on his way to perfecting his craft. Let’s just hope it’s a taste what’s to come from his forthcoming EP, Young Bloods, out February 18th via Fool’s Gold Records.
