Charles E. Dickerson’s experimental producer project Mono/Poly first found its way to Brainfeeder in 2011, when he unveiled his well-received Manifestations EP. Since then he’s made his own mark on the LA beat scene, releasing two fantastic albums that manipulate and challenge notions of West coast instrumental hip-hop (He even dabbled in Top 40 shenanigans, recently, offering production for last year’s Non-Fiction LP by Ne-Yo.) His newest offering, Cryptic, feels more alien, menacing, apocalyptic in its penchant for dark, grimy textures. The fantastic future funk jam “Nocturne,” the only collaborative track on the EP, features Seven Davis Jr. on vocals and Thundercat on bass.
Mono/Poly’s Cryptic EP is currently only available on Bandcamp. Stream/buy it below. Cryptic was released by HIT+RUN, “the world’s originators of live ccreenprinting at events since 2005 with crews in Los Angeles, London,Melbourne, New York, Auckland, Tel Aviv, Miami & Dubai.”
