What's This?

Since the string of singles she released last year, Brookyn rapper Diani Eshe has been giving us life. The 18 year-old artist is a well connected individual–her brother is experimental hip-hop producer and MC Amani Fela and her father is the legendary Talib Kweli–but she’s managed to navigate Brooklyn’s underground with a modesty and humbleness that’s well beyond her years.

The same can be said for her energetic rhymes and wide range of vocal and musical talents. Somewhere between the unabashed hardness of Eve and the introspective realness of Noname, Diani Eshe’s debut EP, Troppus, is undeniably ferocious and unexpectedly tender. The latter comes through on “Meet The Gang,” where Diani saunters and swerves over a languid jazz sample and reveals her sentimental side (“I don’t really know how to tell you that I like you,” she rap-sings on the first verse). Stream “Meet The Gang” below alongside the full Troppus EP.
