What's This?

Post-rock, much like life itself, is full of ups and downs. There’s no telling where it will take you, but you can always be sure there will be a moment of shock and awe. “Sad Heart of Mine,” the first track off of Caspian‘s new full-length LP, Dust & Disquiet, is a deceivingly titled body of work. While one might expect the band to return to the gritty sound they so perfectly executed on Tertia, “Sad Heart of Mine” is quite the opposite. To throw around the term “uplifting” might sound a little passé at this point, but this song truly lives up to the description. While it’s noticeably shorter than the rest of the band’s material, it’s equally as impactful. What begins with a beautiful piano arrangement, slowly evolves into a glorious clash of forces that bring the song to an epic conclusion. If the rest of the album falls into the same category, we could be looking at the post-rock equivalent of a modern masterpiece.
