What's This?

Electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist che is reppin’ Brooklyn-based indie Astro Nautico well with his debut EP, sip. It’s the first official release from the new artist of Guatemalan and Native American heritage, who spent time in Ireland and the Bay Area before relocating to Philadelphia. The four-track EP is a rambunctious, somewhat dizzying array of chaotic synth work, free jazz, and blistering electro-funk grooves. Similar to the “naive computer jazz” of Jameszoo‘s Fool, released last year via Brainfeeder, che’s sip is a playfully deranged listen, oscillating unpredictably between artificial and organic source material. And despite all its terrifically weird digressions, che’s debut is something you can easily zen out to, a much-appreciated distraction for these trying times.
