On September 25, lo-fi all-stars Dum Dum Girls will release a follow up to last year’s highly successful Only in Dreams with a new EP entitled, End of Daze. With “Lord Knows,” fans are given the recognizably bare, yet friendly, lo-fi sound the group is known to produce with a dark, almost remorseful subject matter contained within the tracks revealing lyrics.
Lead vocalist Dee Dee wastes no time in enlightening listeners upon her apparently recent self-revelation of her own way of life. “I want to live a pure life/ I’d say that it’s about time.” She then continues with pleas for forgetting and a promise to walk away in the song’s sing-a-long chorus: “Oh boy, I can’t hurt you anymore.” When paired elegantly with the songs solid layer of dry, ringing drums and equally blissful guitars, an apologetic atmosphere is created without Dee Dee ever actually asking for forgiveness. “Lord Knows” not only contains what will undoubtedly be one of the year’s catchiest choruses, but also makes a confirmation of sort that End of Daze will be another solid product from Dum Dum Girls.
