When we interviewed Perth, Australia’s fuzzy new surf-rockers, Kid XL, earlier this month, the group’s lead-vocalist Sean Anthony noted that during the writing process the band would “re-record all the parts to ensure there is a strong dynamic between the guitars and drums.” Holding true to his word, Anthony and his fellow bandmates (JJ, Matt and Liam) have married the two together in their wistful and melancholic new EP, Vacation.
The short and breezy release is the first for the bedroom-pop outfit, who formed following Anthony’s departure from fellow shoegazers, Braves. Between the gritty, garage-rock opener “It Only Hurts” to the lilting third track “So Cool,” Vacation will tug you under a blanket of psychedelic and mellow waves. The EP, which we have the pleasure of premiering for you today, can be streamed in full down below. So, in case you’ve got a bad case of the mondays, make sure to check it out.
