It’s not too often that we get around to posting proper house music on the site, but as we’ve said many times before, there is a time and place for everything, and that time is now!
Joshua Bull, whom you may know as the Senior Editor of the Fist In The Air blog, also doubles his time as a DJ. When he’s not writing about up-and-coming electronic acts or house legends, he likes to focus on his own music which he releases under the title of Stars Above.
Like his fellow BlackBook Music Group alum and frequent Indie Current staple, Mike Gazzo, Bull likes to make his music into a journey full of intense fluctuations and heaving drops. “Higher Than The Sky,” the first cut from his two-song EP of the same name follows this same intensifying formula, breaking for nothing but leaping transitions.
“Daybreak,” the second single to the EP, keeps the consistency flowing as it pushes through a building verse and an abrasive chorus. In spite of its intensity, though, you can still find depth in the chord progressions. But, as soon as the beat drops and the simple, melodic keys disperse, you will literally feel like you are being launched into the stars above. And yes, that pun was very much intended.
