What's This?

Erykah Badu is one of those artist who can just chill on the sidelines for years and make a triumphant comeback in one fell swoop as if she’s always been relevant. She did it last month when she covered Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” a seven-minute remix that (and we’re all thinking this) thoroughly shamed the original. Shortly after the track, Badu announced that she was releasing a mixtape, But U Cain’t Use My Phone, in the near future. It might be safe to assume that this most recent cut from our beloved neo-soul queen is the first offering from the project. Her newest song is called “Phone Down,” a clear homage to Aubrey and a clever extension of the same game she played on “Hotline Bling.” The track was produced, engineered, and mixed by Zach Witness, an extraordinarily talented young producer who we’ve been a fan of in the past (we premiered his track “Amen Love” early last year).

And, just because, here’s Badu’s “Hotline Bling” (also the handiwork of Zach Witness).
