“Video Girl” has barely seen the light of day—in fact, it was released just yesterday—and FKA twigs has already let loose another. Earlier this evening, the beautifully-braided Brit, Tahliah Barnett, took to Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show to premiere her new single, “Pendulum.” As we’re keen to point out, the song will appear on Barnett’s aptly-titled debut, LP1, which will see its release on August 12th via XL Recordings and Young Turks.
Not surprisingly, this latest release finds twigs entangled in sinister relationship with her longtime collaborator, Arca. The production is sparse and complex, but Barnett’s sweet, gaseous harmonies manage to contrast the skittering beats and disorienting atmospherics. It seemed only yesterday that Barnett was releasing cryptic videos on YouTube, but after a bit of time spent holed up in a studio, she has really come into her own—and “Pendulum” is living proof of that.
