We’ve been sitting on Foals‘ spectacular third record Holy Fire for over two years now, but given its relevance, you would think that it was released just yesterday. Although Holy Fire has aged like a fine wine, the group are ready for a new chapter in their flourishing career. Last week, the band announced their new album, What Went Down, and today, they’ve shared the title-track. “What Went Down” is arguably one of the band’s heaviest offerings to date, but there’s little evidence to suggest they’ve abandoned their roots. With lines like “So don’t step to me, kid, you’ll never be found / Cause while you were sleeping, I took over your town,” lead singer Yannis Philippakis hits like a force of nature, barrelling over an intense wall of sound, the kind that sends blood rushing through your veins.
