Fryars‘ music catalogue is a rather eclectic mix of both sounds and styles. Never one to follow patterns or restrict himself creatively, Benjamin Garrett is constantly assuming a new position as an artist and remoulding himself musically and lyrically day-after-day. While his early releases found him toying around and experimenting with a pop sound, his newest outlet of creative expression, “Boys In The Hood,” cuts off any ties to the pop scene altogether.
In this newest offering, Garrett has shown his moodier side, inching his way into the darkness with hollowed-out vocals and eerie atmospherics. The warm piano chords, incessant scratching and fluttering flutes that open up this song will leave a chill running down your spine from the very beginning. Understandably, this has left us feeling a little un-easy, but if there’s one thing we can comfort in through this moody affair, it’s that Fryars‘ forthcoming album is sure to be full of surprises!
