What's This?

The latest effort from Melbourne jazz experimentalist Horatio Luna takes a more direct approach at the house productions and left-leaning dance beats he’s teased so far. Cultural Warriors, out May 11 on Melbourne imprint La Sape, captures a rare moment of live improvised dance music. The chance recording of a casual, multi-hour jam session was chopped up and stretched out to create a dynamic four-track house EP. The Cultural Warrioirs band, co-curated by Melbourne DJ Eddie Mac, is positively stacked: Perrin Moss of Hiatus Kaiyote, Ziggy Zeitgeist of Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, Nap King Cole of Silent Jay x Jace XL and vocalists Serene Favero and Milan Ring.

We’re extremely thrilled to premiere the first offering from Cultural Warriors–the sassy, locomotive house boogie “Work It Out.” Bump the new track below.

Horatio Luna on Cultural Warriors:

“The audio from the desk was raw, dirty and peeking but the ideas were so strong I had to use it… I’m thankful that the genius engineer was MIA most of the night, sleeping in the booth, it made for a beautiful dirty aesthetic. On the gig we took things to the future, playing for hours and just jamming out on what we were feeling… It was like a dream! Completely improvised house music. Serene Favero and Milan Ring came through, as they were out on the town, everything bumped up a level from there!”
