What's This?

Melbourne based singer-songwriter and musician Cosima Jaala is prepping the release of her solo project’s debut album Hard Hold, out next month via Wondercore Island. “Salt Shaker,” the newest single to be released from her Jaala project, is an abrupt departure from the erratic and free-form compositions previously released on Jaala’s SoundCloud. This concise, blues-driven track is centered around a clear narrative as frontwoman Cosi meditates on leaving her family for the big city: “They’ll forgive me when they’re dead/ They’ll forgive me when they’re dead and gone,” she bellows at the chorus. But as forlorn as Cosi’s voice appears, delivering a generous amount of soul-inflected sadness, “Salt Shaker” ultimately emerges from the sonic tumult as an uplifting, inspirational rock ballad when Cosi sings, “See, I got my faith again.”
