According to his bio, Jade TV is the “solo dream-pop project of young-Indianapolis/Grand Rapids-scene-veteran James Allen (formerly Self, Youth Camp).” Apart from that little tidbit of information, though, we don’t know much about the bedroom producer; let alone, how he made his way onto our radar. Nonetheless, we’re more than willing to take his music at face value.
“Dream” is the first and, arguably, strongest offering from Allen’s debut EP, Parallel Moments, which is out now on Jurassic Pop Records. Having already been likened to DIIV and Wild Nothing, it should come as no surprise that “Dream” finds Allen caught in the middle of hazy dream, just as its name would suggest. Instead of recycling techniques used by his counterparts, though, Allen lets his music take on a life of its own. The guitars are coated in reverb, but manage ring-out between verses, while the synths form a similar pattern—one that eventually spirals out of control in the final few moments.
