What's This?

Portland independent label Fresh Selects will release singer-songwriter and producer Jon Bap‘s forthcoming double EP, Let It Happen. The Buffalo, New York native makes simple, spare, post-Voodoo soul music that doesn’t linger on the low-end. Bap’s nebulous guitar melodies are headier than most neo-soul outfits, more akin to the funk-informed slacker rock of bands like Homeshake. His newest effort–following lead single “Gooder Than Before/ Forced”–is the EP’s title track, “Let It Happen,” a gorgeous two-minute R&B vamp.

Jon Bap wrote, produced, recorded, mixed and performed all the instruments on the tracks above. The Let It Happen double EP drops May 27 (the EP artwork is a self-portrait painted by Bap).
