Olivia McCarthy, aka JOY., is a 17 year-old writer, producer and all around talented gal from Brisbane, Australia who has been captivating listeners with her moody electronic productions and heartfelt covers of Drake and Fleetwood Mac. To follow-up her outstanding second single, “Stone,” McCarthy has dropped off an impeccable new track entitled, “Weather.” The three-and-half-minute epic is as enthralling as any of the songwriter’s previous releases, but opts for a darker musical backdrop.
Lyrically, “Weather” is on par with McCarthy’s previous releases, but there’s something to be said about her distant, brooding vocals. With her chilling vocals and haunting lyrics, McCarthy is able to inject some emotion into this cold, hollowed-out tune. As beats ripple through the fore, McCarthy finds herself languishing in the background, only to fall deeper into the abyss when the chorus rolls around. And as you’ll soon find out, it doesn’t take long for us to go with her.
