What's This?

Just before dropping her new single “Cold War,” Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Kiah Victoria pulled a Radiohead and whitewashed all her previously uploaded content. Over the years, she’s surprised and stunned with original tracks like the upbeat synth-pop jam “Tra La La” and her incredibly emotive Coldplay cover, “Fix You.” On Kiah’s newest effort, the rising artist shares some of her biggest ideas and strongest moments to date. The track picks up like a James Blake ballad—muted vocal sample, spare piano melody and diligent finger snaps—before she erupts at the chorus with a skyward hook: “Heaven only knows, it’s a cold war.” It’s a triumphant, soul-pop crossover that embraces gospel influences during its last third, when a choir of voices bellows, “Feels like it’s taking me over.” This is truly a substantial step forward for Kiah Victoria.
