What's This?

Fresh Selects is a Portland, Oregon-based record label, radio show and “whatever else [they] want to be,” according to their SoundCloud bio. The label’s catalogue–which includes Iman Omari, Low Leaf, and several other exceptional musicians–can now boast two new artists: Melbourne’s electronic mad scientist and bass guru Kirkis alongside LA hip-hop production maestro and beatmaker extraordinaire Mndsgn.

The excellent collaborative 7″ single, “Cold Crush,” was released last week. The A-side sees Kirkis solo, his first released material since last year’s Liverbleach EP, crooning tender R&B sentiments over an almost overwhelming barrage of rhythmically disorienting synthlines. Mndsgn produced and mixed the downtempo, zero gravity-feeling remix, which finds serenity and sex in the maelstrom of the original cut.
