After languishing in the deep depths of an open rainforest on “One Thing,” Lapalux has found a new space in which to transmit his lush, otherworldly electronic musings. By teaming up director/producer Nick Rutter, Lapalux has been given the opportunity to score a track for Rutter’s new short-film, Chrysalis. What he came up with isn’t within his typical realm of sultry vocals and plush backdrops, but it does showcase the very best of his abilities.
It starts off with a simple push of swelling synths and white noise, but quickly transforms into a playing field full of haunting, alien-like imagery. As the song grows, Howard digs deeper and deeper until he arrives at a vague and eerie product, vastly different from his initial creation. It’s a far stretch from the lecherousness of his previous work, and as such, it brings a much more nostalgic image to the table. Nevertheless, it finds Howard in as a good a shape as when we left him.
