What's This?

If there’s one artist I had to put my money on this week, it would have to be Layla. With only a couple of EPs under her belt and a few rotations on the radio, this humble young Brit hasn’t exactly blown up yet. But with her gripping new ballad, “Smokestacks,” she is poised to take the world by storm.

With a powerful, brooding voice to front and a gentle, but confident personality within, Layla has got all of the makings of a star. From the way she carries herself to the way to the way she belts it out, she’s ready to hit the world stage. And if her voice hasn’t already given Adele a run for her money, you can bet your bottom dollar that her newest single will.

Just as any heartfelt ballad should, “Smokestacks” is overflowing with bombast. Full of pounding drums, swelling horns, soaring strings, and a precession of backup vocalists, the song is EPIC in every sense of the word. While there is a great deal of focus on the instrumentation in this song, it is Layla‘s rousing vocals that make this song so “substantial” (as one listener put it). So if you have time to do only one thing this week, I would suggest you quit reading this article and hit that “play” button down below.
