I’ve been asking for—no, demanding—new music from Lucy Rose since I caught up with the fiery-haired songstress last April. When she visited my local hipster bar, she and her band took the liberty of previewing some new music. At the time that seemed to suffice, but with a fully mastered version now in my hands, I am realizing just how badly I really needed this.
Her newest single, “Cover Up,” is a testament to Rose‘s development as an artist. A scattered, idiosyncratic mix of drums and syncopated guitars flood their way through the backdrop as Rose eerily wiggles her way up our spines. With this drastic change of pace, I am finding the boundaries of her music hazy at best. Though this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I don’t really know what to expect from the humble and timid young songwriter anymore.
