What's This?

Chris Davids and Liam Ivory, aka Maribou State, have always had a sense of rhythm, but recently, they’ve really picked up their game. Last month, the boys announced the release of their debut record, Portraits, which was accompanied by the lead single, “Rituals.” Today, they’ve shared the album’s second cut, “Raincoats,” a similarly focused offering that calls to mind Bonobo, particularly in its final moments. The four-and-a-half minute single is an organic blend of hypnotic beats and sporadic samples that slow takes shape, building layers of rich atmospherics. Fusing electronics and live instrumentation, the pair have created a track that is sonically intriguing but maintains a human touch.
