What's This?

Paris-based singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Melody’s Echo Chamber wants you to know she’s up to something. Yesterday she uploaded four demos from 2013, three fully formed, fantastic tracks and one funky, prog-jazz interlude called “Le Coeur Bleu.” It’s the artist’s first original material since the 2014 one-off single “Shirim”–last year she stealthily featured on French psych-pop act Moodoïds “Le lac d’or.”

It was previously reported that Melody’s Echo Chamber would write and produce her (hopefully) forthcoming second album, contrary to her self-titled debut which was produced by Tame Impala‘s Kevin Parker. Some of these songs still bear Parker’s sonic imprint: the pedal-washed guitar lines of “Pêcheuse De Lune” and the moody synth-organ jam “From Pink They Fell Into Blue.” Lyrics like “You’re so cold/ I am but so dark” and the way she exhales sharply at the end of the take, as if she’s just been relieved of an incredibly heavy burden, makes me think the latter track could refer to the romantic relationship that ended between Kevin and Melody just after their musical collaboration.

Stream all four unreleased demos below.
